ProductsAdvanced Receiver Transcoder Receives “Pick Hit” Award at IBC 2007
The ART provides vital transcoding capabilities to support the efficient satellite delivery of HD content to headends using MPEG-4 video compression and DVB-S/S-2 technology. The new receiver’s support for the DVB-S2 modulation standard, which expands the content carrying capacity of existing satellites by up to 30 percent, together with the bandwidth improvements of Scientific Atlanta’s MPEG-4 advanced HD video encoders, provides programmers and broadcasters with powerful capabilities for the delivery of considerably more HD content over today’s satellite transponders. By transcoding MPEG-4 HD content delivered to a headend into an MPEG-2 HD stream, the ART enables legacy MEPG-2 set-tops to receive the HD programming. This helps extend the useful life of an operator’s vast installed base of MPEG-2 set-tops while allowing the programming to be delivered to the headend using the most up-to-date, bandwidth-saving technology. The D9858 Advanced Receiver Transcoder was selected at IBC 2007 by a panel of independent judges who toured the exhibition floor, looking for innovative technology. They then met to make their selections based on multiple criteria, including the technical and financial improvements the products can bring to a facility's operation. Request more information here.
